Jebel Toubkal
Tour Details

Overview

Toubkal National Park, located about 70 kilometers south of Marrakech, takes its name from Jebel Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa. It’s a popular destination for hikers exploring the High Atlas. The Mgoun massif, situated around 180 kilometers southeast of Marrakech in the Central High Atlas, offers a quieter hiking experience compared to the Toubkal massif, though both are part of the same mountain range.

Our hiking itineraries range from 2 to 9 days (with up to 8 nights spent in tents or mountain lodges), with six options featuring more remote trails and rugged campsites. Due to its distance from Marrakech and more isolated setting, the Mgoun massif attracts fewer visitors, offering a more tranquil and secluded experience. However, Toubkal National Park still remains less crowded than popular European hiking destinations like the Alps.

Example Trekking Programs:

  • Jebel Toubkal Summit, 2 Days
  • Jebel Toubkal Summit, 4 Days Circuit
  • Jebel Toubkal Summit, 5 Days Linear
  • Jebel Mgoun Summit & Atlas Crossing, 5 Days Linear Remote
  • Jebel Mgoun Summit & Gorges, 9 Days Circuit Remote
Important Information:

  • Typical trekking days will take around 6-7 hours, with opportunities to relax and enjoy lunch in the shade along the way.
  • Summit days may take 9-11 hours, so it’s best to start early to make the most of the weather.
  • All trips include meals and accommodations in bivouac tents (for two), mountain refuges, or charming inns.
  • If you’re planning to spend a day in the mountains, also plan for a day of travel to and from the trailhead.
  • Unless otherwise stated, all trips begin and end in Marrakech.
  • Tours are available from June to October.
  • Since we won’t be ascending too high (above 3500m), altitude sickness is not a major concern. However, it’s important to follow your guide’s pace, as they are trained to spot any issues.
  • Although no trek is considered difficult and is suitable for moderately fit walkers, your experience will be more enjoyable if you are in good physical condition.
  • If you prefer hotel stays with guided day hikes rather than full camping treks, please contact us for further details.
