Begin your adventure in Tangier, a gateway to Morocco with its breathtaking caves and proximity to Chefchaouen, the northern jewel of the country. After a scenic drive through the Rif Mountains and beyond Tetouan, stop at the foot of the mountains to admire the stunning views. Chefchaouen’s Medina, once part of Spanish Morocco, boasts distinct Spanish architectural influences. In the late afternoon, we’ll drive to Fez, where we’ll spend the night.
Start your day by wandering through the maze-like alleys and narrow streets of Fez, one of Morocco’s oldest and most fascinating cities. Begin at the Royal Palace gates, followed by a visit to the Jewish Quarter, home to Morocco’s first Mera, established in the 16th century. Explore Fez’s cultural and historical landmarks, including the renowned Al-Qaraouine University, the world’s oldest existing educational institution. Other highlights include the Tannery, the Atelin Museum, and the Moulay Idriss Mausoleum. After lunch, visit local co-ops and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Medina.
Fez is divided into three main areas: Fes el-Bali (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), the oldest of the three cities; Fes el-Jdid, the Jewish Quarter; and Ville Nouvelle, a modern neighborhood built during French colonial rule. In the afternoon, we’ll drive to Rabat, the capital city, and continue on to Casablanca.
